- Mr. Jay-Kun Yoo, a former member of the National Assembly of Republic of Korea has taken office as the Chairman of YIJUN Institute of International Law since July 2008.
- Born in 1937 in Seoul, Korea, he graduated from the prestigious Kyunggi Highschool and went to Yonsei University where he obtained a bachelor of arts and a master’s degree in political science. He was then awarded and M.S. from Brigham Young University ! and ph.c. in Sociology from University of Washington. Mr. Yoo joined the California Bar after obtaining his Juris Doctor degree at the University of California, Davis School of Law. He practiced and taught law in Los Angeles and Kyungwon College in Korea.
- As a congressman for nine years, Mr. Yoo was a Chairman of the National Defense Committee, the National Convention of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party, and the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights of the IPU. He attended IPU conferences as the head of the National Assembly delegation, thereby contributing to helping the foreign opinion leaders have a better understanding of the issues regarding the Korean Peninsula. He also served as a President of The Korea-U.S Inter-Par! liamentary Council. He has contributed greatly to promoting close relations between the legislatures of the two countries.
- As a leading expert on international law and foreign relations, Mr. Yoo served as the Chief of Staff for President Kim Dae-jung and as a senior foreign policy advisor for the president-elect, Roh Moo-hyun. He also wrote many books and articles on international human rights law and foreign affairs.
- Among his distinguished career, Mr. Yoo host of several popular Korean television programs, such as “MBC TV’s Current Affairs Debate” and “KBS TV’s Midnight Talk Show.” He was also served CEO of Young Poong Corporation in Seoul. Mr. Yoo is now a senior advisor of Lee Internatioanl Law Group, Seoul.
